Artist's Description

The Point Reyes is a beached fishing trawler that's a famous local spot for photographers. It's just outside the little town of Inverness. I've inquired of several locals as to the history of the boat and it remains a mystery. Either they don't know or it's a local secret. In any case, this thing has been shot to death, so the trick is always trying to find a different way and situation to capture it. I was lucky enough to be there when the Tomales Bay tide was at a high, providing this nice reflection. The boathouse on the left I brought in for perspective and to anchor that side of the image. The boat is larger and powerful enough to keep the eye, but once it trails off the coastline flows right to the boathouse, keeping it in the image rather than flying off. Graduating from San Jose State University with a BS in photojournalism, Don Hoekwater moved away from photographing events to more artistic and creative imaging.
